Guide to performance profiles

Hardcore Hockey Profiles |
|
Every member of HH has access to the profile features within 'My Training Ground'. Members can use profiles to rate their current level, set targets for improvement and track and record their progress over time.
You can get started on building your own profile (or profiles) within the 'My Training Ground' area of the site. Those who want a little more information about how to complete profiles should read on for a detailed guide.

Getting started constructing profiles |
|
Step One - Choose your performance factors. Performance factors are simply aspects of the game you believe to be important and could be from the following areas: Technical - such as hitting, jab tackling, 3D skills. Tactical - understanding systems of play, learning my role in the penalty corner defence, outletting. Fitness - stamina, speed, agility, core stability. Psychological - preparing for performance, concentration, confidence. You can choose between 2 and 10 performance factors. You could create one profile with a range of factors from the 4 areas or 4 smaller profiles from each area, do what works for you.
Step two - setting the ideal (goal) level The most important part of the performance profile is establishing what the 'ideal' standard is. You must decide on your basis for ideal, our advice is to imagine the standard of a player at the very top of your performance standard. By this we mean that if you currently in the national U16 squad and are aspiring to get in to the national U18 side then imagine a player from the U18 squad as your ideal. If you are a striker in a local league team then imagine a player who is consistently the best striker in your league and use them as a target level. The target level must be one which you could possibly achieve after some work but shouldn't be too easy either. Simply slide the orange slider to your ideal or goal level.
Step 3 - rate your current standard Another important factor in profiling is being realistic when rating your own level of performance. If you think that your ideal player is at level 9 for reverse stick hitting then ensure that you are accurate about your level. We recommend that once you establish your performance factors you print a blank profile and get your coach to rate you too, this way you can also use their input to set the white sliders. Updating/editing |
|
It is important to revisit your profiles in the My Training Ground section as often as possible. Whenever you log in to the HH website your latest profile updates are displayed in the Profiles section where you can quickly see all of your latest adjustments.
Profiles should be updated regularly so that you can celebrate your improvements and alter targets where necessary - for example extending a fitness target when you have an injury. Again we reccomend getting your coach to input in to this; you could get them to rate your performance factors during pre-season and then ask them to rate them again after a few months. |

Viewing progress and charts |
|
HH not only tracks your progress in the My Training Ground section but also allows you to view specific records and charts for each of your profiles. If you are a student then you may wish to use our print out option to print records and charts to include in submissions for PE and Sport coursework. As a player you may also wish to print out and keep these for discussion with your coach or just your own progress record. The view progress options are completely flexible; once you access the 'History' section of your profiles simply set the date to examine your progress over any given period. Once you make this selection HH will produce a progress record graph which shows changes to your profile levels over the time period (shown below).
The image below is your profile chart and shows each of your performance factors with both current and ideal performance levels.
Ideal levels are shown in blue and current levels is green; the aim is to increase the current performance levels until they meet the ideal standards - covering your chart in green. The chart helps begin the goal setting progress as it quickly shows you the areas where the blue (ideal/target) level is most removed from the green (current). Use this equation to help you see which performance factors you should work on first - Ideal Level - Current Level = Discrepancy For example if you see that your ideal level for strength is 9 but your current level is 3 then the discrepancy is 6 and you would be likely to pick this to work on. |
|
Working on and completing profiles |
|
When you have calculated the discrepancies and picked the largest ones, the first thing you should do is search the HH site for articles on the topic (for example strength). Once you find articles you can save them in to My Content so they are easy to find later and you should also add sessions to your diary for doing some strength training. This might seem like a lot to think about but don't worry HH will email you a reminder of the diary entry and link it to the strength article in case you want to review it again. HH recommend that you use the profile area to the full by creating a number of profiles over the season. Ideally players should create profiles for different aspects of their game. Creating new profiles is easy and completed ones can either be deleted or kept in the my profile section for future reference. |

Coaches can also get involved in the the use of profiles by providing ratings for their players' profiles and by looking at their own strengths, weaknesses and areas for development.
