Coaching performance profiles
| COACHING PROFILE A coach's ability to record goals and assess improvements at regular intervals can be paramount to continued personal development. Use the innovative online profiling in the 'my training ground' area to regularly reflect, review and update your coaching progress. The performance profiling technique was based on a theory called Personal Construct Theory proposed by George Kelly (1955). The process involves thinking of an 'ideal' standard of performance across a number of performance factors and then rating yourself against the ideal standard on each performance factor. Profiling is employed to establish your own view of your performance and to form the basis for goal setting; if you are able to rate your current standards on a number of factors and then your target factors it is extremely easy to see where the biggest differences lie and what you should work on. Remember to keep working on your strengths and add to that some development of your weaker areas. |

Getting started |
|
Every member of HH has access to the profile features within 'My Training Ground'. Full members can use pre set profiles to rate their current level, set targets for improvement and track and record their progress over time. To get started, go to 'my profile' and click create new profile. In the next screen (image copy below) choose the coaching profile from the drop down menu titled 'custom goal'.
You could work on this profile over a few months or over the course of the whole season, you are in complete control of the target completion date for each profile. You will also find a coach's physiological knowledge profile, which profiles your current level of knowledge on physiological aspects of hockey. You can then use the site to update your knowledge and review and update your profile at regular intervals. This can then be printed or saved as .pdf as a record of your continued professional development. The 'coach's profile' contains the headings: Tactical / Technical / Match Analysis / Planning / Grp coaching / Ind Coaching / Demonstration / Communication / Motivate / Learning skills / Confidence / Improvise / Physiology / Psychology / Trust. The 'coach's physiological knowledge profile' contains the headings: Anatomy / Energy / Warm up / Cool down / Speed / Strength / Power / Flexibility / Pre game / Post nutrition / Pitch fitness / Hydration / Medical / Testing / Planning. Before you start to track your progress complete the dates you want to achieve your goals by. You can also add a motivational note in the text box. Setting the ideal (goal): The most important part of the performance profile is establishing what the 'ideal' standard is. You must decide on your basis for ideal. The target level must be one which you could possibly achieve but shouldn't be too easy either. Rating your current standard: Using the sliders for each attribute listed, rate your current performance against your ideal. As you slide the white slider you will see the current number go up or down. Another important factor in profiling is being realistic when rating your own level of performance. Choose your ratings for all performance attributes and click 'create my new profile'.

Updating/editing |
|
It is important to revisit your profiles in the My Training Ground section as often as possible. Whenever you log in to the HH website your latest profile updates are displayed in the Profiles section so that you can quickly see all of your latest adjustments. Profiles should be updated regularly so that you can celebrate your improvements and alter targets where necessary, don't be afraid to adjust goals. |

Viewing progress and charts |
|
HH not only tracks your progress in the My Training Ground section but also allows you to view specific records and charts for each profile. You may wish to print out your records and charts and include in submissions for PE and Sport coursework, coaching courses or continued professional development (CPD). You may also want to print out and share with your mentor or head coach. The view progress options are completely flexible; once you access the 'History' section of your profiles simply set the date to examine your progress over any given period. Once you make this selection HH will produce a 'progress record' graph which shows changes to your profile levels over the time period (shown below).
Another option is to produce a 'profile chart', this shows each of your performance factors with both current and ideal performance levels. 'Ideal' levels are shown in blue; the aim is to increase the 'current' performance levels (shown in green) until they meet the ideal standards - covering your chart in green. The chart helps begin the goal setting progress as it quickly shows you the areas where the blue (ideal/target) level is most removed from the green (current). Take your ideal or target number and subtract your current number; performance factors with bigger discrepancies are the targets you should address first. |
|
Completing profiles |
|
HH recommend that you use the profile area to the full by creating a number of profiles over the season. You can also use the coach's physiological knowledge profile. Creating new profiles is easy and completed ones can either be deleted or kept in the my profile section for future reference. |
