Lewis Butcher

High Performance Coach



 


Lewis began his hockey career as a Junior player at Old De Ferrians Hockey Club in the East.

He then moved 'up north' to study a BSc (Hons) in Sport Science at Teeside. Following his degree he settled in the north, moved to Leeds and played for Leeds HC in the North Premier Division.

Lewis then decided to concentrate on further developing his coaching career and over the last two years, has had various roles of significant position.

Between 2007 and 2009 he was assistant coach for Sheffield Hallam men's 1st team in the EHL Conference-North and head coach for the men's second team; winning 2nd XI Cup in 2008.

In addition, Lewis has been assistant coach for Wales U16 Boys winning a silver medal at the Home Nations Tournament. He also worked with the North U.17 and U.21 squads.

 

Currently Lewis is a Centrally Contracted Coach (CCC) for England Hockey, leading the coaching at the Leeds Junior Regional Performance Centre (JRPC) for Girls and the Pennine Pumas U16 Girls teams in the Futures Cup.

Following a playing career and being a key a volunteer at Leeds HC for a number of years, sitting on the committee and leading the club through the ClubsFirst Accreditation Scheme, Lewis has become the Director of Coaching at Leeds HC.

Lewis works full time for England Hockey and as part of his work was nominated to attend the International Olympic Academy – Session for Young Participants in June 2009.

 

"I adopt a very holistic view to my coaching and value the impact that all areas of sport science can have on performance. You can develop the best stick skills out there, but if you don't have the right attitude or fitness to deliver this on the pitch week in week out, they are useless "
